Privacy Notice

Last updated: June 22, 2026 · This page is maintained by builds.bike to explain how we handle personal data when you use builds.bike.

Who we are

builds.bike ("we", "us") provides the builds.bike Service and acts as the data controller for the personal data we collect about you through the Service.

What we collect and why

  • Account data — email address, display name, and authentication identifiers, used to create and secure your account.
  • Garage content — bikes, builds, components, parts bin entries, saved reports, and notes you choose to save, used to deliver the features you use.
  • Tool inputs — text queries, uploaded part photos, and mechanic chat messages, used to generate compatibility verdicts, identifications, and responses, and to improve the Service.
  • Usage data — records of which tools you use and how often, used to enforce free-tier limits and improve product quality.
  • Device & log data — IP address, browser type, and basic request logs, used for security, fraud prevention, and diagnostics.

Legal basis

We process personal data to perform our contract with you (providing the Service and your subscription), to comply with legal obligations (tax and accounting), and based on our legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving the Service. Where required, we rely on your consent.

Who we share data with

  • Stripe, our payment provider, processes your payments, manages subscriptions, calculates and remits taxes, and handles invoicing and billing support.
  • Infrastructure and model providers we use to host the Service and run features (identification, compatibility, mechanic chat). Inputs needed to fulfill your request may be sent to these providers for processing.
  • Authorities, where required by law.

International transfers

Some service providers may process data outside your country. Where required, we rely on standard contractual clauses or other valid transfer mechanisms.

Retention

We retain personal data while your account is active and as needed to provide the Service. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise personal data within a reasonable period, subject to legal record-keeping requirements (for example, transaction records held by Stripe).

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, or port your personal data, and to object to certain processing. You can also withdraw consent where processing is based on consent. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@builds.bike. You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

Security

We apply appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect personal data, including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular security review.

Cookies

We use essential cookies and similar storage to keep you signed in and to operate the Service. We do not use third-party advertising cookies.
